How to Create a Vista Bootable Disk

Instructions

Step 1

Download a torrent program such as Bittorrent (linked below) to gain access to a vista CD. Bittorrent is a file sharing program used for the distribution of larger files, such as those found on an operating system disk. Install Bittorrent on your PC after the download is complete.

Step 2

Go to the Neosmart site (linked below) to download the appropriate torrent for your copy of Vista (whether 32 or 64 bit). Do not make the mistake of downloading the wrong copy, as it will not work with your product key. If you are unsure, simply right click on "My Computer" and select "Properties. " The resulting box should tell you what version of Vista you are currently running.

Step 3

Burn the downloaded CD from the torrent in step two to a blank CD-R. Use either a commercially available CD-burning tool like Nero or by using the included CD burning software in Vista. Simply create a data disk and place the downloaded file on the disk. Don't put anything else on the disk. This will create a boot disk that you can use to reinstall or repair your existing Vista installation.

How to Reinstall Windows XP on a Computer Without Erasing Data on the Hard Drive

When your computer behaves erratically, is unusually slow or has problems booting, the best solution is to reinstall the operating system. Unfortunately, a normal installation of Windows XP will destroy your existing data and remove your existing applications. You need a method to reinstall the operating system while preserving essential files from the previous installation. If you purchased and installed Windows XP for an existing computer, there may be solution known as a "repair installation" that allows you to keep your data and application files while effectively reinstalling Windows XP.

Instructions

Step 1

Back up your data. If you can boot your computer and access your data files, you should copy these files to another drive or backup media in the event the repair installation fails.

Step 2

Place the original Windows XP installation CD in your computer's CD drive and reboot the computer. Make sure your computer gives you the option to boot to CD on startup. If not, check the settings in your BIOS to provide the CD boot option on startup.

Step 3

At the "Press any key to boot from CD" prompt, press a key on your keyboard to begin booting from your Windows XP CD.

Step 4

Windows will then display this message: "This portion of the Setup program prepares Microsoft Windows XP to run on your computer: To setup Windows XP now, press ENTER. To repair a Windows XP installation by using Recovery Console, press R. To quit Setup without installing Windows XP, press F3."

Step 5

Do not press the "R" key at this point even though the message indicates doing so to repair an installation of Windows XP.

Step 6

Press "Enter" on your keyboard to proceed as though you were performing a new installation of Windows XP.

Step 7

Agree to the licensing information by pressing "F8."

Step 8

Note the display showing your current Windows installation directory. Select this directory, and then press the "R" key to repair this installation. If the "R" key is not available, your existing installation may have been made by the computer manufacturer. You will need to contact the manufacturer for information on obtaining recovery discs to restore the original Windows installation.

Step 9

Follow the instructions displayed to initiate the repair installation. You may be required to re-enter your installation key code.

Step 10

Windows XP will proceed with reinstalling the operating system. This may take a while. When finished, you will need to also install all subsequent service packs and security updates.

How to Download Music for FREE Online

Everybody loves music, but downloading music can be risky business. There are a few solutions that involve buying your music, but here is a way to do it for FREE! It is fast and easy and involves no alternative programs such as Lime wire or Ares. ITS 100% FREE!

Instructions

Step 1

First, turn on your computer and open the web browser.

Step 2

Type in www.jamglue.com in the web browser's search bar and hit "Go". This will take you to the Jamglue homepage.

Step 3

You will need to sign up by clicking the "Sign Up" button in the top left corner of the page, above the "Go" button.

Step 4

This will take you to another webpage where you have to provide a username, password, a confirmation of your password and your current email address. Also, you will have to type the words stated in the Captcha. This lets Jamglue know that you are a real person, and not a virus. Agree to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy by checking the box and click the "Sign Up" button.

Step 5

Ignore the webpage that opens after clicking "Sign Up" and in a NEW TAB, log into your email account. You should see a message from Jamglue with a subject reading "Please Verify your Jamglue Account." Open it and click on the link provided within the email. A new webpage will pop up from Jamglue. Click on the "Finish" button. A new page will load, but you can close it and continue on the original Jamglue page you were working with.

Step 6

A profile type thing will be on your screen. You can write out a little bit about yourself and customize your account. Jamglue is also for people who want to make their own remixes to songs, but if your only purpose is to download music filling out all of the information is not necessary. I recommend taking a look at it all incase you do want to fill it out, especially the Email Preferences, this can prevent Jamglue from sending you unimportant emails. When you are finished, click "Save Profile".

Step 7

NOW, THE FUN STEPS :) You are now a member of Jamglue.com and it is now time to start downloading music! Pick a song that you would like to download and type the name into the search bar. If it is a common name, I recommend typing in the artist also. No need to type "by" in between, it only picks up on keywords. Click "Go" when you are finished typing in the song title and/or artist.

Step 8

When the search results come up, focus on the RIGHT side of the page. These are the tracks, or the regular songs. The left side has all of the remixes, or recreated versions of the songs. Find the song you were searching for and click on the name of it, which is a NAVY BLUE color.

Step 9

You now have opened up the song where you can view more information about it (how long it is, who it is by, who uploaded it, etc). You can also play the song from this page as well as the previous page, as long as you have the latest version of a program called Flash Player. Even if you don't you will be able to play it when it is downloaded.

Step 10

To download a song, scroll down a little bit and there will be a menu on your LEFT titled, DOWNLOAD. At the bottom of the mini menu there is another NAVY BLUE link that says "Download". Click it.

Step 11

You will see another Captcha. Type in the words you see in it. Then click the "Download Now!" button.

Step 12

A menu pops up asking if you want to Open, Save or Close the download. Click either "Open" or "Save", I recommend "Save" and choose a desired saved location where you can easily access your songs (DON'T FORGET WHERE YOU SAVE IT TO!). The download will commence and the loading bar will start to fill up. It will tell you when the download is complete. You may then close that window.

Step 13

Minimize any windows you have open and click on the "My Computer" icon on your desktop. If it's not on your desktop it will be in your Start Menu. Find the place where you saved the Mp3 file. Click it to highlight it and then click the "Open" button.

Step 14

The song should start playing in whatever media program you have. If you don't have one, I recommend downloading Windows Media Player. Most PCs with Windows already have this as the default player. You can also drag and drop the Mp3 into your iTunes library so it is added to your iPod.

Step 15

Repeat steps 7-14 as desired. HAPPY DOWNLOADING :)

How to Change the Windows Startup Sound

Instructions

Step 1

Make sure that the new sound you are going to use is formatted as a WAV file since mp3 files will not work. If you don't have a wav file of your own, there are many websites out there that have WAV files you can download. Search for "free wav files" on your favorite search engine.

Step 2

Copy the file somewhere where it won't be deleted and to ensure that you can find it easily. The directory "C:/Windows/media" is a good choice because that is where the current system sounds are stored.

Step 3

Go to "Start" > "Settings" > "Control Panel."

Step 4

Choose "Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices" and then "Sounds And Audio Devices" from the Windows Control Panel.

In Windows Vista, "Sounds And Audio Devices" has been replaced by "Sounds."

Step 5

Scroll through the sounds. In XP you're looking for "Start Windows." In Vista, they no longer have a system start sound, but you can choose "Windows Logon."

Step 6

Once you find the right item, click the sound and at the bottom it will have a play button where you can play the current sound or "Browse" where you can choose a different sound.

Step 7

Click "Browse" and navigate the the new sound WAV file you want to use. Then hit "Apply" and hit the Play button to try it out. Once you're done, hit "OK."

Step 8

Restart the computer and when you logon you should hear your new Windows startup sound!

How to Delete an Email Account

There may be times when you want to delete an email account. Account inactivity, too much spam or the need to consolidate multiple accounts are reasons often given for canceling. The process differs depending on your service provider and whether yours is a free or paid account, but here are suggestions for deleting the most common accounts.

Instructions

Step 1
Use your username and password to log on to your Google page if you want to delete your Gmail account. Select the "Edit" option for "My Services," and then click "Delete Gmail service" under "Delete a Service." Check the box to confirm the deletion. You'll be asked to supply a new email address to be your username for other Google account services.
Step 2
Consider what you'll be giving up if you delete your Yahoo! email account. You'll lose access to your My Yahoo! settings, Hotjobs, GeoCities and other Yahoo! services, too. If you still wish to proceed, go to the "Terminating Your Yahoo! Account" page and confirm your decision with your password. If you have any paid services associated with your Yahoo! email account, terminate them separately first so you don't continue to be billed.
Step 3
Click "Help" on any MSN Hotmail page to delete your Hotmail account. At the search prompt, enter "Close Account." Select the blue highlighted "Close your account" link that appears, and read the terms for deleting an account; depending on your service level (free or paid) you may need to speak with a customer service representative to cancel your account. Confirm "Close" once you have read and accepted the terms.

Step 4
Be prepared for a complicated process if you want to delete your AOL email service, especially if it is a paid account. You'll need to download and print out a PDF cancellation form from your account page, complete it and fax or snail-mail it to AOL. You can also try calling the AOL customer service cancellation line at 1 (888) 265-8003. In either case, you may have to follow up several times to be sure the billing has been canceled or to convert your paid AOL email to free service.
Tips & Warnings

  • Most free email account providers discourage deleting your account. Instead, they recommend letting the account stay idle except for occasional usage to prevent spammers from taking over your account address.

  • Contact your individual service provider if it is not covered here or your need more information on how to delete an email account.

  • Be aware that when you delete an email account, you will lose all information, including address books and archived mail, associated with it. Follow your provider's instructions for backing up or exporting email account information before choosing the "Delete account" option, which is irreversible.

  • Depending on your provider, it will take anywhere from 30 to 90 days for all email account data to be removed after an account is deleted.

How to over clock a CPU

Over clocking a processor means enabling it to operate above the manufacturer's specified frequency. Many Internet sites provide instructions for over clocking. Processor manufacturers and many computer experts believe the slight gain in performance (only perceivable on CPU-intensive software) isn't worth the expense or considerable risk.

Instructions

Step 1

Get whatever tools you need: screwdriver, needle-nose pliers, motherboard manual, cooling hardware, etc.

Step 2

Find out whether your motherboard can be adjusted in the BIOS setup, with jumpers or not at all.

Step 3

Find out clock-speed limitations of the motherboard.

Step 4

Run all Windows and any third-party diagnostic applications you have. Fix all system problems.

Step 5

Make a complete backup of your system, documents and applications you don't have on CD-ROM. Do not overwrite these copies.

Step 6

If you have a BIOS-adjustable motherboard, make changes according to your motherboard manual, and skip to Step 15.

Step 7

Shut down computer.

Step 8

Leave computer plugged in to surge suppressor.

Step 9

Disconnect all peripherals from computer.

Step 10

Remove cover of chassis.

Step 11

Ground yourself to computer with any professional grounding equipment you have. Otherwise, ground yourself by touching a metal part of the chassis.

Step 12

If your motherboard has adjustable jumpers, locate the jumpers that control the CPU speed.

Step 13

Use needle-nose pliers to change jumper settings. Move jumpers to positions indicated in your motherboard manual for the clock speed you want. Check the Internet for recommendations.

Step 14

Install a CPU heat sink, heat-sink compound, and a specialty cooling fan, if appropriate and possible.

Step 15

Put system back together, and reboot.

Step 16

If computer does not boot, and CPU still works, try lowering the clock speed. If that doesn't work, restore the original configuration.

Step 17

Check all functions, and run a CPU-intensive program.
