How to Reset the Administrator Login Password in Windows XP

Windows XP has a robust security system that lets you configure each and every aspect of the system. This security starts with the logging in of users. Administrator account is of particular importance as the administrator has all the rights to operate the system, including maintaining it. The administrator account password should be complex and not easily guessed.

Instructions

Step 1
 
Boot up the computer. Go to "Start" and click on "Control Panel."

Step 2
 
Double-click on the "User Accounts" icon in the control panel.

Step 3
 
Click on the "administrator" icon below the "Pick an account to change" section.

Step 4
 
Click on "Change my password" below "What do you want to change about your account?"

Step 5
 
Type your current password.
 
Step 6
 
Type a new password in the box below.

Step 7
 
Type the new password again to confirm.

Step 8
 
Type a word or phrase to use as a password hint in the box below.


Step 9

Click on the "Change Password" button.
